British Council summer course for English Language teachers held this year in Yemen

British Ambassador Mr. Tim Torlot thanks the British Council for the efforts in promoting the English language, which ultimately leads to greater understanding from both sides.
Education can do a lot to bring a country forward; and the foundation of any kind of educational process is the teacher. With this in mind, The British Council held their summer course for English Language teachers this year in Yemen.


The instructors a came from countries ranging from Bahrain to the United States of America, while the trainees were all Yemeni.

The concluding ceremony of the course, held at Rabea’a al-Adaweah School last Thursday July 9, was conducted in the presence of the British Ambassador Mr. Tim Torlot and the Director of the British Council Mr. Michael White.

Mr. Torlot thanked the British Council for providing the chance for American teachers to experience the hospitality of Yemen and for their efforts in promoting the English language, which ultimately leads to greater understanding from both sides.

A Bahraini instructor, Nahed Eshaqi, said that at first she was afraid to come to Yemen because of the risks, but she has no regrets as she thinks of all of the people she has met. She thanked the British Council for bringing a mix of nationalities of people together and for providing them the chance to know each other.

An American specialist in English language teaching, Mr. Kevin McCaughey said that they work together to promote English language and that he enjoys working with Yemeni English language teachers because they have an amazing spirit.

He added that he is amazed by Yemeni hospitality, specifically related to the taxi drivers and said, “I’m spoiled in Yemen as compared to back home.” He expressed his happiness with the international experience he had in Yemen, thanking the British Council.

A Yemeni English language instructor, Sameera Fuhaid, told the Yemen Observer that she attended the course held previously in Qatar and that she considers this one to be much better. Another teacher said that this is the most effective course has taken in his professional life so far
